My favorite Coastal Bush Camping Bundaberg area in Qld.

Coastal Bush Camping around the Bundaberg area in Qld:
I’d like to share one of my (personnel) favourite bush camping area on the coast is in the Kinkuna section of Burrum Coast National Park. Camping is on the foreshore and in the week hardly anyone goes there. At the weekends you tend to get a few locals, mostly fishermen. We stayed there a week and saw only the ranger once and one day tripper! There are no facilities, toilets, drinking water or rubbish bins so you must bring enough water and food to last your stay. The beach stretches for km´s and the sea is safe (no stingers/box jelly fish) to swim. Its just a fantastic place to just relax and enjoy nature.

You can only get there with a 4WD, the road in (Palm Beach Rd.) is very good with a narrow gravel track, the last section is sandy. There are sign posts to the NP from Bundaberg but are not very good, take the Bundaberg (not the high-way) to Childers Rd, (you should see the airport on the right hand side) via Goodwood and keep driving till you get to a railway overpass (approx.15km) then turn in to the Coonarr Rd and keep going till approx 7km and turn right into the Palm Beach Rd. and basically keep driving till you hit a forked track, with a National Park information board, take the left hand track till you reach the sea! You have to pay the usual NP camping fees. Unfortunately they removed the “self registration” box due to people continually stealing the money. You can pay by telephone and credit card but the reception (Telstra) is very poor at the camp site. You can get a camping permit from Queensland Parks and Forests in Bundaberg or pay the ranger on site if he comes!

My tip: If you camp on the foreshore to the left of the track, this is no longer NP and fees do not apply and you can camp for free.

If you do have time and you are in the Bundaberg area this is well worth a side trip!

PS: At low tide you can drive along the beach south via Woodgate and return to Bundaberg. (Check with the ranger before you attempt this!)
